A gradual warming of the Earth's atmosphere reportedly caused by the burning of fossil fuels and industrial pollutants. The Earth could be getting warmer on it's own but many leading scientists agree that the warming is happening because of the way we live our lives today. If global warming continues on this same path we can expect a higher sea level, changes in rainfall patterns, and a mass extinction of animals, plants, and humans. How are we making the Earth warmer? Simply by releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The solution to this is clearly stop releasing these gases, everyone, all over the world, right now. Us humans have become addicted to living our simple lives, driving our cars, heating our homes, and using a lot of electricity. Some of us are not yet ready to give up the things we take for granted, but soon enough the world will change. Within a couple of years we will be confronted by water shortages, crop failures, increasing damages from extreme weather events, collapsing infrastructures, and, potentially, breakdowns in the democratic process itself. At this point, we will be faced with our final chance for survival. Leading scientists including Rajendra Pachauri, head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), British ecologist James Lovelock, and NASA scientist James Hansen -- have all declared that humanity is about to pass or already has passed a "tipping point" in terms of global warming. The IPCC, which reflects the findings of more than 2,000 scientists from over 100 countries, recently stated that it is "very unlikely" that we will avoid the coming era of "dangerous climate change." Do not let these warnings discourage you, there are lots of things you can do to limit the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. Look around this website and other similar sites to help guide you to living a more Earth friendly lifestyle. Global warming is too big for one person to solve, but if we work together on this, we can solve it! Spread the word.
